Recommendation, safety & eligibility disclaimer
What our recommendations are, what they are not, and what stays your call. Effective and last updated August 31, 2026 (version 2026-08-31-2).
Informational guidance only
Athlete Select produces informational equipment guidance to help an adult make a better bat decision. It is not coaching instruction, medical, physical-therapy, strength, nutrition, safety, legal or league-official advice, and it is not a substitute for your coach, your league, a fitting in person, or the manufacturer’s own guidance.
Sizing is a documented heuristic, not a measurement
Our sizing model is a deterministic, documented heuristic built from multi-source manufacturer sizing guidance, the athlete’s measurements and how their current bat actually feels. It is a well-reasoned starting point, not a laboratory measurement or a biomechanical assessment. Fit scores express how closely a bat matches those rules; they are not validated science and they are not a performance prediction.
Every athlete is different
Two players with identical age, height and weight can genuinely prefer different bats, and swing feel is partly personal. Treat a recommendation as an informed shortlist. When you can, have your athlete swing the bat in person — at a store, a cage, or from a teammate’s bag — before you buy.
No guarantee of performance or safety
We do not guarantee hitting results, bat speed, exit velocity, comfort, durability, injury prevention or safety. Use of any bat carries risk. Follow the manufacturer’s warnings, temperature limits, break-in guidance and use restrictions, inspect equipment for damage before use, and never use a bat that is cracked, dented, rattling or altered. Adult supervision and proper coaching matter more than the bat.
League eligibility is your final check
We apply season-versioned USSSA rules (usssa-2026) — the 1.15 BPF stamp, barrel diameter and permitted drops, plus age-group drop restrictions — as a hard filter before anything else. Even so, individual leagues, associations and tournaments can be stricter, can differ locally, and can change rules mid-season. Confirm the bat with your organisation before purchase and before game use. You are responsible for the bat your athlete takes to a game.
Product facts and catalog completeness
A bat is only listed once its exact model year, certification, drop and length come from a manufacturer source, so some families deliberately show no sizes. Manufacturer claims, independent observations and Athlete Select-derived scores are labelled distinctly. Where nothing credible exists, an attribute stays unknown and scores neutrally — we do not fill gaps with assumptions. Specifications can still change without notice, so verify the stamping and specs on the physical bat.
Prices, availability and used equipment
Any price or availability is a third-party, point-in-time observation with a last-verified timestamp, and is suppressed once stale. We never present the price of one size, drop or model year as the price of another and we never claim real-time pricing. For used or open-box listings, condition, authenticity, remaining life and warranty are the seller’s representation, not ours — inspect and confirm before you buy.
Independence
Commission, sponsorship, retailer payout, click revenue and ad spend are never inputs to a recommendation. See the affiliate disclosure, and the full methodology.
